January can't help but be a sad month. Brown discarded Christmas trees line the streets. People walk along the sidewalks; a little older, a little grayer; shocked at how overextended they are as a result of the holidays - having eaten too much, spent too much; drank too much. Tired from long lines at the airport and delayed travel plans. Frustrated at already failed new year's resolutions.
And for me, January has become a month of loss. In my adult life, it has too often been this month that I have mourned the death of someone whom I care for very deeply. Men far too young and full of life to be so careless with it.
