Chris, the turtle and I live on street where everyone knows everyone's business: who's employed, who's baptized, who's gone to college, who's sleeping with whom. And the relationships are complicated. Everyone is somebody's uncle, cousin, ex. And it makes for a lot of drama.

This past weekend was especially intense. So much so that Chris and I spent yesterday afternoon sitting with the neighbor's grandkids (a 4 mos old, a one-year old, and a ten-year old) while she and her adult children made heads or tails of a complicated/ high stress situation.

It's experiences like these that make me appreciate my quiet and pedantic life. Sure Chris and I disagree. We're both stubborn and passionate. We read a lot and question everything and we don't always see eye to eye. But we respect one another and we respect our child. And we will always strive to make our home a place where one can be nurtured and loved. And, where even a child has a voice.
