It's 5:36am and I'm heading out the door. I plan to get in a couple of laps before my little guy wakes up in an hour. I'm bewitched, and would love to be a better swimmer; at the least improve my strokes.
I've never been much of an athlete. My one and only journey into competitive team sports was an abysmal showing on the Jr. High Volleyball team. But swimming is more meditation than sport. I focus on myself in a way that I can't during yoga practice where I'm easily distracted by the dust on the floor and the shadows on the wall. But in the pool, all I can hear is the water being pulled and pushed around my body and the sound of my own breath.
