This weekend was about parties. Not only were we celebrating the turtle's birthday, but his birth buddy's as well. His birth buddy was born just a few hours before at the same hospital. In fact, I often say that the reason, Chris and I were stuck in triage so long is because everyone was busy bringing her into the world.
The weekend was remarkable. Turtle's buddy's party which was lovely and elegant. It involved her whole family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. And we had an incredible time. It was followed the next day by the turtle's - in what we were calling the kids' "after party;" an intimate little affair at our home. Chris spent the week preparing an Indonesian rijstaffel (sticky rice, bami, pork satay and gado gado salad). And last night he baked a cake - which was the turtle's first foray into the fabulous world of dessert.
And this afternoon, our funny little railroad apartment in Queens, New York was full of toddler laughter. And now, just a few hours after everyone has gone home; I once again reflect on how amazing our life is and what remarkable people are a part of my turtle's world.
